In August we held our ‘Come and Sing Coronation Music’ event in St. John’s Episcopal Church, Greenock. This was an idea which captured the imagination, and we had a great turnout, including some potential new members and some visitors from other choirs.
The music included pieces such as Zadok the Priest, one version by Lawes and one version by Handel, O Grant the King a Long Life by Child and I Was Glad by Parry. We also tackled a new piece - Roxanna Panufnik’s Sanctus which was recently premiered at the King’s Coronation.
This was our first event with our new Musical Director, Nicholas Wilks. Afterwards Nick said, “The Come and Sing was a great opportunity to meet together before the start of the new season and explore a fantastic range of music written for coronations over the past 400 years. We were also treated to some wonderfully evocative organ solos from Chris Nickol.”
We were very grateful to all who organised, and especially to St. John’s Episcopal Church who hosted us and organist Chris Nickol who played for us.
